Passive Speakers

MISCO’s origins are all about Passive Speakers.  From the beginning MISCO created thousands of world-class speakers for specific, individual audio solutions.  Today you can choose from a wide variety to passive speaker types.  Use the filters to choose which are best suited for your application.

Since the invention of speakers, the vast majority of speakers are passive. Most speakers that plug into an external amplifier are called Passive Speakers. That’s regardless of the number of drivers, pole type, enclosure type, or other characteristics. A passive speaker doesn’t have a built-in amplifier; it needs to be connected to your amplifier through typical speaker wire. The amplifiers job is to send a speaker level signal that has been amplified enough to drive the speakers sufficiently.

The amplifier sends the full (frequency) audio signal, then the speaker’s passive crossover separates and splits the incoming audio signal and sends each band (frequency range) directly to each of loudspeaker system’s drivers, such as woofers, mid-ranges and tweeters. Typically crossover networks are an arrangement of resistors, capacitors, and inductors, which split the signal and send each frequency part to specific drivers (the speaker elements).
